Dr. Brian Schneckenburger currently works as Supervisor of Music and Dance Education for Baltimore County Public Schools and was previously Coordinator of Fine Arts in Baltimore City Public Schools. Brian taught instrumental and general music for 13 years in public schools in New York, Arizona, and Maryland before he made the transition into administration eight years ago.
Brian also continues to serve in several leadership capacities at the state and national levels. He currently serves as President-Elect of the Maryland Music Educators Association. In addition, he is a member of the Steering Committee and Pilot Site Coordinator for NAfME’s Teaching from Primary Sources initiative, a partnership between NAfME and the Library of Congress. Brian has also worked on an internal review team for the National Core Arts Standards and writing teams for state music standards in Arizona and Maryland. Brian is also a past member of the Maryland Fine Arts Education Advisory Panel.
Dr. Schneckenburger completed his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction/Music Education at the University of Maryland, College Park, where his principal research interests were formats and features of effective professional development for music teachers. He also holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in Instructional Leadership and Professional Development from Towson University, and received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Music Education from the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY.
