Biography
Jeffrey Reed is a professional bassist, vocalist, bandleader, and educator with more than 20 years of continuous teaching experience and over 30 years as a performing musician. At Towson University, he teaches in the Jazz/Commercial Music and Music Industry areas, working with students in applied bass, jazz ensembles, improvisation, music theory, and the professional and business aspects of the music industry. His teaching emphasizes the connection between strong musicianship, practical experience, and the skills students need to build sustainable careers in music.
Reed holds a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Towson University. As a performer, he has worked extensively across jazz, rock, pop, and commercial music on both electric and upright bass and as a vocalist. His decades of professional work as a freelance musician and bandleader give him a perspective shaped not only by the classroom, but by the realities of rehearsing, performing, leading ensembles, working with clients, and making a living in music.
He brings that experience into his teaching with the goal of helping students become knowledgeable, adaptable, and confident musicians prepared for the professional world.
