Biography
Leah Inger, soprano, has been praised by The Baltimore Sun for her “bright, flexible soprano” and “bell-like voice.” A versatile artist, her career spans opera, oratorio, chamber music, new music, musical theater, and cabaret.
On the operatic stage, Ms. Inger has performed with Opera Vivente, Baltimore Concert Opera, Young Victorian Theater Company, and Peabody Opera Theater in such roles as Almirena in Rinaldo, Pamina in The Magic Flute, Norina in Don Pasquale, Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring, the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon, and Yum Yum in The Mikado. She also sings regularly with the Washington National Opera and Maryland Lyric Opera choruses.
Ms. Inger has sung Handel’s Messiah with the Southern Delaware Chorale, Danbury Music Centre, Annapolis Chorale, and Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and has been a featured soloist on programs with the Columbia Orchestra, Bay-Atlantic Symphony, Deer Creek Chorale, and Roland Park Summer Chamber Music Series. She was a lead in Cole with the Maryland Arts Festival and appeared in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Holiday Spectacular and Sci-Fi Spectacular. Recently, she has cultivated a passion for creating and performing solo cabaret shows, which have been presented at venues in Baltimore and Chicago.
An interest in music of our time has led Ms. Inger to multiple appearances on the Evolution Contemporary Music Series, singing works by Harbison, Peacocke, Cerrone, Saariaho, Adashi, and Kirsten. In 2014, she was the understudy and cover for the premiere of Michael Hersch’s one-woman opera, On the Threshold of Winter, presented at Brooklyn Academy of Music. Other premieres include Damon Ferrante’s Super Double Lite and Jefferson and Poe, both performed at Symphony Space in New York City, and the Baltimore premiere of Ned Rorem’s song cycle Evidence of Things Not Seen. She made her debut recording with Curt Cacioppo’s Songs for Paternina (“Burning with the Muse,” MSR Classics). She has twice performed Ginastera’s Cantata para América Mágica, conducted by Jonathan Haas and Eduardo Leandro.
A native of Tennessee, Ms. Inger holds degrees from Georgetown College, Towson University, and Peabody Conservatory, where she studied with Phyllis Bryn-Julson. In addition to performing, she teaches both in the studio and the classroom at Notre Dame of Maryland University, Towson University, and DC Public Schools.
