Biography
Stefan Antwarg is a music educator and tuba performer with more than 30 years of experience teaching instrumental music. He taught full band and orchestra at Southampton Middle School in Harford County, Maryland, as well as small-group instrumental lessons. He also taught jazz band and general music at various times and served as music department chair during his final eight years. His bands and orchestras earned superior and excellent ratings at local, state and regional festivals.
Mr. Antwarg was a co-founder and director of the Harford Youth Band, sponsored through Harford Community College. Since 2010, he has served as an adjunct faculty member at Harford Community College, where he teaches applied tuba. He currently teaches Brass Techniques at Towson University.
Mr. Antwarg grew up in Randallstown, Maryland, and attended Towson University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in music education. His major instrument was tuba and he studied with Ed Goldstein as an undergraduate, while also taking additional private lessons from David Fedderly. He earned a Master of Music degree from Towson University, studying tuba with Mike Bunn. Following college, he continued his tuba studies with Scott Mendoker.
Mr. Antwarg has performed with numerous ensembles, including the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra, and community bands throughout the region. He also founded and performed with the Harbour Brass Quintet and the Regal Brass Quintet. He currently plays tuba with the Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra and the Chesapeake Concert Band.
Mr. Antwarg resides in southern York County, Pennsylvania with his family. His interests include photography, shooting sports, cooking, performing and practicing tuba.
