Biography

Visiting Assistant Professor, co-Artistic Director of the Wilma Theater of Philadelphia, Company Member at the Woolly Mammoth Theater in D.C. Associate Director of the Center for International Theatre Development, Baltimore. 

Born in Moscow, Russia, Yury graduated from the Russian Academy of Theatre Art (GITIS) in 2000 with an MFA and has directed over 40 productions in his home county, Europe and Africa.

His recent professional directing credits in the US include Hedda Gabler and Ubu Roi at Cutting Ball Theatre in San Francisco, award-winning Thr3e Zisters at Salvage Vanguard Theatre in Austin, The Pillowman at Forum Theatre in D.C., Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play at Wilma Theatre in Philadelphia, and also Kiss, Marie Antoinette and You for Me at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in D.C. 

Yury translated plays of Martin McDonagh, Sarah Ruhl and Edward Albee into Russian.

Since 2002, he has worked closely with the Center for International Theatre Development on several Russia- US cultural projects, including the year of Russian theatre at TU in 2009-2010 New Russian Drama: Voices in a Shifting Age.
