Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Counsel
Sara Slaff joined the Office of General Counsel in June 2018. Prior to joining Towson, Sara served as Associate General Counsel at Johns Hopkins University and also served in two interim roles at Johns Hopkins as the Interim Vice Provost of Institutional Equity and as the Interim Assistant Vice Provost/Title IX Coordinator. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Sara worked for 22 years at the Maryland Attorney General’s Office where she served as Deputy Chief Counsel of the Educational Affairs Division. Sara received her undergraduate degree from Brown University in Modern Literature and Society and her law degree from American University, Washington College of Law. Sara clerked for the Honorable David V. Kenyon, U.S. District Court, Central District of California (Los Angeles) before joining the Baltimore office of Hogan and Hartson (now Hogan Lovells LLP).
Associate General Counsel
Ashley Hoover joined the Office of the General Counsel in December 2017. She previously served as a Contracts Associate at John Hopkins University in the Research Administration office. Prior to working in higher education, Ashley worked in private practice with a focus on real estate and commercial transactions. She earned her B.A. from McDaniel College and her J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law. Ms. Hoover’s areas of concentration include sponsored research, contracts, intellectual property, and real estate.
Associate General Counsel
Matthew Reinhart joined the Office of the General Counsel in March 2019. Prior to joining Towson University, Matthew served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Educational Affairs Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office where he represented the University System of Maryland and its 12 constituent institutions before state and federal courts, and administrative agencies. Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Matthew worked as a litigation associate at the Baltimore office of Venable LLP, and also served as a senior analyst at the United States Government Accountability Office in Washington, D.C. Matthew received his B.S. in Public Affairs and his M.P.A. from Indiana University Bloomington, and his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
Chief Compliance and Risk Officer
Bruce D. Griffin joined the Office of General Counsel in April 2020. Bruce most recently served as the Director of The Center for Sport Science and Risk Management at US Lacrosse, The National Governing Body for the Sport. Prior to this, he has served in roles within higher education as the Chief Risk Officer, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Environmental Safety, Director of Health and Safety, and Safety Inspector at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Duke University Medical Center, and North Carolina State University. Bruce earned a B.S. in Industrial Technology from the University of Maryland, a M.S. in Occupational Safety from East Carolina University, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Bruce is a Certified Safety Professional, an Associate in Risk Management, and a Graduate Member of the IOSH (UK).
Eduardo Duenas joined the Office of the General Counsel as the Paralegal in November 2016. He earned his B.A. in Psychology from CUNY City College of New York in 2013. He is a recipient of the CUNY STOCS Scholarship and the Colin Powell Partners for Change Fellowship. Prior to joining Towson University, Mr. Duenas has worked at a private law firm in New York City. Eduardo provides support to the Office of General Counsel attorneys in all aspects of legal research, responding to subpoenas and public records request, and managing legal technology resources.
Executive Administrative Assistant
Danielle Myers joined the Office of the General Counsel in September 2018 as the Executive Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Legal Affairs, and General Counsel. She earned her B.S. in Electronic Media and Film from Towson University in 2012. Prior to joining Towson, Danielle worked at a private law firm in the Towson area. As an executive assistant, Danielle provides administrative support for the staff of the General Counsel.
