The Center for STEM Excellence offers a variety of free resources for Maryland elementary, middle and high school science teachers that bring hands-on investigations to the classroom.
Science is Elementary serves elementary teachers, while the “Maryland Loaner Lab” (MDLL) serves middle and high school teachers. Kits for both programs contain all of the necessary reagents, equipment and curriculum needed for students to engage in inquiry-based activities that support the “Next Generation Science Standards” (NGSS).
Our Science is Elementary program is open to any elementary teacher in Maryland. Any Science is Elementary resources that require additional training will be specified on the Science is Elementary request form.
Our Maryland Loaner Lab program offers secondary science teachers kits of materials that include equipment, reagents and lessons. We ship the materials directly to your classroom; you send them back to us when you’re done.
This program is open to any teacher that has completed the Maryland Loaner Lab training workshop. Training workshops are held 1-2 times per year. Interested in attending? Check our Teacher Professional Development page for current trainings and sign-up for the TUCSE newsletter to find out when our next Maryland Loaner Lab Training workshop will be held
Teachers may request a custom training date either at the Towson University Center for STEM Excellence or your school. We require a minimum of 15 participants to schedule a custom training date, and we need a 3–hour time block for the session. Email at mdll AT_TOWSON to request a custom training workshop or with questions.
