Programs of Study

The Towson UTeach Program gives students the opportunity to explore the profession of teaching in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and to complete teacher certification on a fast track. The program emphasizes solid content knowledge woven with pedagogical instruction specific to science and mathematics.

Students can pursue teaching certification by majoring in the secondary education concentration in biology, chemistry, earth-space science, mathematics or physics. These are Bachelor of Science degree programs and include all courses required for certification. The Towson UTeach courses are built into the curriculum of these programs.

Students are eligible, upon graduation, to apply for certification to teach biology, chemistry, earth-space science, mathematics or physics (grades 7-12), respectively, in the state of Maryland and in all other states. Students should be prepared to do their internship experience in their senior year.

The units in the major field, including those required for Towson UTeach, must all be completed with a grade equivalent of 2.00 or higher. All students must meet the following GPA requirements to be admitted to student teaching: 2.75 GPA in major field and 3.00 in professional education courses with a minimum 2.75 overall GPA, based on transcripts from all institutions of higher learning attended, including Towson University.
