The Office of International Initiatives supports faculty and staff engaged in university-related international travel. Find access to travel policies, safety protocols, visa and documentation guidance, and emergency support to ensure compliant and well-coordinated travel.
Pre-Travel Planning
Travel Authorization Process
- get familiar with TU Policy on International Travel
- complete the International Travel Request & Waiver form
- consult the TU Business Travel Office website
International Travel Advisories, Passport and Visas
- check the US State Department website for travel advisories and restrictions
- check your passport's expiration date and apply for renewal if necessary
- research visa requirements for your destination country and apply for a visa if needed
Foreign-national faculty and staff traveling on a visa should consult with the International Student and Scholar Office prior to departure to ensure proper documentation and travel precautions are in place.

Consult the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) for recommended vaccinations and health precautions for your destination. If you do need any immunizations contact your doctor or a travel medical clinic such as Passport Health.
If you take prescription medicine, research whether it is available in your host country and bring a copy of the prescription for the generic name of the drug. If you have any favorite over-the-counter remedies that you use, you may want to take an initial or full year’s supply.
Travel Insurance
Review your travel insurance policy to understand coverage for medical emergencies, evacuation, and trip cancellations. Enroll in a travel insurance plan if you don't have coverage, and carry proof of insurance while traveling.

Keep the university's emergency contact number handy for immediate assistance, and note the contact information for your country's embassy or consulate in the destination country.
Health and Safety
Identify nearby medical facilities and hospitals in case of health emergencies, and stay informed about local safety tips and alerts.
Local Customs and Laws
Familiarize yourself with the cultural customs and practices of the destination country, and understand local laws and regulations to avoid legal issues while abroad.
Monitor Travel Policies
All travelers are advised to regularly monitor university and government travel policies, stay informed of global developments, and take appropriate steps to manage travel-related risks.
