Many students are interested in working while on their student visas. However, there
are several rules, regulations, and limitations regarding student employment. Please

Below you find helpful information about employment updates and changes for students
on Optional Practical Training and hoping to apply for H-1B (work authorization).
The ISSO is open!
The ISSO in PY 408 is currently open from 9 am to 5 pm Monday thru Friday. We recommend
you call before coming to the office to check that an ISSO staff member will be able
to see you. We are also available to assist students remotely via email (isso AT_TOWSONand Zoom, Webex, or phone appointments. Immigration requests should be submitted through
the ISSO Portal. Normal in-person business operations will resume beginning July 6, 2021 with office
hours from 8 am to 5 pm.
Students can now make all requests and upload required documents through the online portal.
OPT Form I-765 Online Filing Option 4/12/2021
F-1 students seeking optional practical training (OPT) can now file Form I-765, Application
for Employment Authorization, online. USCIS Notice
STEM OPT SIte Visits: Update 2/18/2020

the information they provide about being prepared as an F-1 student for these visits.
H-1B Registration Process Implemented 12/19/2019
On 12/4/19, USCIS announced that it would move forward with the H-1B registration
for the 2021 H-1B cap-subject petition process. USCIS Notice
SEVP Portal Update: Update 10/18/2019
Students will now only have access to SEVP Portal information for 6 months after OPT/STEM
OPT ends. Be sure to print or save portal record before your access ends. SEVP Notice

DHS has posted new rule instituting a reverse selection order for those with a master's degree or higher from U.S. USCIS Notice

will assist you to make sure that you are in compliance with nonresident alien tax
