ADVENTURES IN CLAY

AGES 7-11
8 Saturdays, October 7 - December 2 (no class November 25)

Instructor: Mary Cloonan

Children love engaging in the tactile activity of  hand building with clay. Students learn a variety of techniques for building functional and sculptural works of art, including slab, coil and pinch pot methods. Each week students use their imagination and creativity to bring new themes from different artistic traditions to life in clay. Projects consider age and skill level and allow returning students to continue building skills, knowledge and technique.

CARTOONING & COMICS WORKSHOP

AGES 10-15
8 Saturdays, October 7 - December 2 (no class November 25)

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Create an original cartoon(s) using visual storytelling through script writing, character development and background design. A sequential storyboarding process leads students from initial sketches to final printing of completed comic narratives. Participants use digital and hand-drawn illustrative techniques to sketch, ink, color, write and print their finished comics.

STUDIO: DRAWING & PORTFOLIO PREPARATION

AGES 12-16
8 Saturdays, October 7 - December 2 (no class November 25)

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Instructor: Peter Eide 

The Drawing and Portfolio Preparation class is for older students to refine their drawing skills and create a finished body of work. The focus is on drawing from direct observation. Portfolio preparation meets the standards required by area art schools for admission to their programs. Students may repeat the class to expand their skills and strengthen their portfolios.

POTTER'S WHEEL & HAND BUILDING STUDIO

AGES 12 - Adult 
8 Saturdays, October 7 - December 2 (no class November 25)
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Instructor: Donna Lansman

Create ceramic art using the potter’s wheel or through handbuilding. Students learn wedging, centering and throwing on the potter’s wheel or coiling, pinching and slab construction with hand-built clay. This course also teaches glazing techniques to create one-of-a-kind ceramic objects and vessels. Best for beginners and intermediate students, includes firing fee.

DIGITAL STUDIO

AGES 12-16
8 Saturdays, October 7 - December 2 (no class November 25)
1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Instructor: Peter Eide

In this workshop students will focus on manipulating the traditional art-forms of drawing and painting using alternative processes to create original digital artworks. Students will use a range of tools including scanning, digital photography, animation and digital manipulation with an emphasis on the fundamental principles of art and the creative process. Adobe Photoshop Suite software will be used in a Macintosh OSX operating system.

CLAY STUDIO: DINNERWARE

AGES 12 - Adult 
8 Saturdays, October 7 - December 2 (no class November 25)
1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Instructor: Donna Lansman

Nothing makes food taste better than to be served from your personally created dinnerware. This class offers an opportunity to design and create a unique set of stoneware bowls, mugs and serving pieces. You will learn handbuilding clay techniques, how to make press molds and explore surface decorations to create your collection of signature dinnerware.
