Frequently Asked Questions

Job Shadowing: Tigers Behind the Scenes is a career exploration program that connects students with professionals to experience what a typical day is like in the life of a professional. It allows students to explore career paths, gain insights into workplace environments, and learn about different roles and industries that interest them.

We expect that job shadowing will take place at a company/organization job site location and not an in-home remote location. Hosts are free to design job shadowing the way that works best for them.

Hosts provide students with a full-day experience that may include:

  • A tour of the workplace
  • Career conversations with staff in different roles
  • Observing daily tasks
  • Attend meetings (if appropriate)
  • Sharing career guidance and advice

We would like for students to have a full-day experience. However, we aim to be flexible and manageable for hosts.

  • Create a brief agenda or a schedule with activities for the day
  • Identify colleagues who can speak with students about what they do at your organization
  • Prepare to share your career journey and insights
  • Inform the student where they could get lunch or provide them with lunch
  • Ensure any confidentiality or safety protocols are addressed

TU’s job shadowing program is based on program demand. Students select their top three choices for shadowing, but the Career Center will match students based on career interests, major, and availability. Our goal is to match students with hosts that are a good fit for both.

Participants are typically undergraduate students exploring career options or interests. However, there could be graduate students interested in learning more about their field of interest.

You can host a Zoom session that includes a virtual tour or overview of your role, a Q&A session, and a panel with colleagues or team members.

You can sign up for the job shadowing program by using the registration link above.
