Exploration Career Community
The Exploration Career Community provides students with opportunities to explore their career interests.
If you don’t know where to start, or you have an idea, but are not 100% sure, that’s okay. Studies show 80% of college students change their major at least once, and you have an opportunity to find something at which you excel and enjoy. Below are some tools and resources to assist in your career exploration.
Gain Knowledge
- Visit our Career Assessments where you can take assessments that can provide suggestions for possible careers and majors that might match your interests.
- The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) or Strong Interest Inventory (SII) are additional assessments to gain knowledge. For further exploration, make an appointment via Handshake to take an assessment.
- Attend a What Can I Do with This Major? Workshop. See Handshake for more details.
- Evaluate your career priorities. Define your workplace values using a Value Sort Activity to start seeing patterns in the things you want to be included in your future career.

- Use the Focus 2 comprehensive career planning tool to explore interests, skills, and values to identify potential career paths and academic majors.
- Explore how you like to work before you commit to a major or career path by completing the Forage Career Explorer.

Experience
- Volunteering – Connecting with an organization in the greater Baltimore region or participating in an annual service event to help generate ideas for potential careers.
- Job Shadowing Program – Job shadowing connects undergraduate students with employers for one-day job shadowing opportunities to explore a potential career field.
- Career Community Site Visits – Look for opportunities in the other Career Communities to visit some of the region’s top employers to see what job opportunities they offer and if they pique your interest.
- On-campus / Part-time Jobs – Whether the role is on-campus or off, working will allow you to gain skills and will enable you to explore and build up your network for future job opportunities.

Exploring Options for Pre-Screened Majors
Students in pre-screened majors can use the following resources to explore academic options and potential career paths:
- Focus 2 – Explore majors and career options through self-assessment, career exploration, and informed academic decision-making
- Career Coaching – One-on-one support to help students discover their interests and confidently choose a path aligned with their goals
- Forage Career Explorer – Virtual simulations that allow students to “test-drive” real-world jobs and explore careers that match their strengths, interests, and work style
- O-Net Interest Profiler – Identifies students’ interests and connects them to related career options
