How did you find this internship?

I found this internship through a TU friend/peer.

What advice on the internship application process would you give to another TU student interested in this internship?

Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is important in order to get the most out of your experience. If you don't go out and pursue an internship that you feel suitable for you, you'll never find what you are looking for.

What did you do as an intern at this organization?

Since the branch of the company that I worked in was PT, I did everything from wiping down tables for new patients to use, to actually learning and being taught exercises from the PTA's and helping take patients through the exercises in order for them to reach their rehab goals. There were also days where all I did was file paperwork and print copies of different sheets. This is all part of being an intern though and all remained to feel like gratifying work.

What did you find most rewarding in your internship?

The most rewarding part of my internship experience had to be meeting patients for the first time, helping them through their rehab (as much as I was legally allowed to do) and then watching them finish their road to graduation and peak health. It made me feel like myself and the people around me were really making a difference in these people's lives.

What were the challenges you faced in your internship?

I'm an introvert so interviews and meeting new people have always been hard for me. In the physical therapy field, you have to be able to communicate and be reassuring to people you have never met before.  This is what really challenged me and pushed me out of my comfort zone.

If another student at TU was interested in your internship next year, what skills would you recommend they develop in the coming semesters to prepare?

Become a people person! Your co-workers and patients will all benefit from your extroverted attitude. I would also recommend studying human anatomy and how it all works because the more you know, the more help you will be to the people in charge. Lastly, you should learn how to work your tail off! Everyone loves a hard worker and if you are doing everything you can and trying to do more, people will notice.
