How did you find this internship?

I found this internship through LinkedIn.

What advice on the internship application process would you give to another TU student interested in this internship?

For the internship application process, my advice would be to emphasize your research and analytical experiences at Towson University! Every job requires the ability to find and analyze data, and this will set you apart from the other candidates who only discuss the basics or creative aspects of their experience.

What did you do as an intern at this organization?

At McCormick, I worked in Custom Flavor Solutions, which is a department that works to sell flavors to corporate manufacturers (such as PepsiCo and Mondelez) and corporate restaurants (such as McDonald’s and Chick-Fil-A). I helped create research reports that our department could share with our accounts on things as mainstream as Generation Z or as abstract as chili pepper preferences in Latin American countries. I also created custom presentations for specific sales projects, and I did a lot of back-end analytics to help evaluate the performance of our department.

What did you find most rewarding in your internship?

I loved seeing how my work contributed to the bigger picture of our department, and how it contributed to a sale or creation of a new flavor or product. And the taste tests were great too!

What were the challenges you faced in your internship?

The research and data analytics side of the job was a challenge for me, but one that my team was incredibly helpful with. By the end of my internship, my team was coming to me for insights and assistance on getting information from our databases that they were challenged to find themselves.

If another student at TU was interested in your internship next year, what skills would you recommend they develop in the coming semesters to prepare?

My advice to a fellow TU student would be to get familiar with PowerPoint and Excel, learn how to pivot data, and learn how to cleanly and professionally create data visualizations. I also would suggest trying your hand at networking so that you aren't intimidated to do it when you're in the office!
