How did you find this internship?

I found this internship through a TU alumnus.

What advice on the internship application process would you give to another TU student interested in this internship?

Even if you feel discouraged or a bit underqualified, apply anyway! Also, plan accordingly to make sure you have all the materials required.

What did you do as an intern at this organization?

I helped the program operations manager prepare three summer workshops for high school students. Duties included confirming attendees, helping train workshop volunteers, ordering workshop materials, shipping materials, workshop set-up, and daily operations. I was in charge of ensuring each workshop ran smoothly.

What did you find most rewarding in your internship?

It was rewarding working long days/nights during the workshops to make sure everything was flowing and at the end seeing the smiles on students' faces after they had completed a successful workshop.

What were the challenges you faced in your internship?

Crisis communications and plans switching at the last minute was challenging.

If another student at TU was interested in your internship next year, what skills would you recommend they develop in the coming semesters to prepare?

Learn to be a people person (the organization is very friendly and welcoming with high energy). I would also suggest having an open mind and being able to be flexible. Although we plan and plan and plan, things still can change in an instant. Communication skills are very important; being able to communicate the task you are doing and asking for help goes a long way. Having a level mind is especially important because the work can be a lot at times, and you may be pulled in many directions.
