How did you find this internship?

I found this internship through Handshake.

What advice on the internship application process would you give to another TU student interested in this internship?

Start applying as early as possible. I started applying to places in February and I was worried I wasn't going to find somewhere. In March, I heard back from Grace.

What did you do as an intern at this organization?

I worked under the Product Manager. My job consisted of my analyzing products in the company’s portfolio to determine if they could be eliminated. Some of the tasks I worked on were:

  • insuring accuracy of the portfolio in terms of lead times and shelf life
  • insuring the PI sheets were available and accurate for each product in the portfolio
  • continuing to help update the product hierarchy, and
  • managing import products to help make sure customer hierarchies were accurate

What did you find most rewarding in your internship?

I learned so much while working at Grace. I learned the importance of details and accuracy. I also saw how using the information impacted data and business decisions that are made.

What were the challenges you faced in your internship?

At first, I was a little confused about what it was I was supposed to be doing when I was given the information and data to work on from my manager. My manager was very busy so she would throw a lot at me at once and go through my tasks very quickly. On the first day of work, I was very overwhelmed, and I went home really upset. I learned that I must be proactive and figure out on my own what I needed to do with the information she gave me. I researched some information and tried meeting other employees in the building who could help me. If I were to tell a future intern something, I would say not to give up and say you can't do it. At first, it may be hard adjusting to a new environment, but the end result is worth it because you learn a lot about yourself.

If another student at TU was interested in your internship next year, what skills would you recommend they develop in the coming semesters to prepare?

Excel!!!
