Jasmin Farahani

When Jasmin Farahani left her native Germany to work as an au pair in Phoenix, Maryland, she knew very little about Towson University. Today, Farahani is enrolled in the M.S. in Marketing Intelligence program, which allows her to combine her information technology and analytics background in one of Towson University’s newest degree programs.

“I moved to the United States seven years ago and decided to stay,” says Farahani, who acknowledged greater career opportunities in the United States. Her adjustment to the U.S. was made a bit easier since she had studied English as a second language since fourth grade.

A member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, the international honor society for business students, Farahani conducted cybersecurity research, focusing on recent data breaches. Her work resulted in an article, published in the Towson University sponsored Baltimore Business Review, that raised awareness about company data breaches and ways to minimize them, such as creating firewalls and making data anonymous.

“I like analyzing data and figuring out where a company can go in the future through data analysis,” says Farahani. Her natural skills with numbers led to a spot on the TU team that participated in the Business Analytics Competition at Manhattan College in New York, which included 19 other college and university teams. “One of the strongest things about a Towson University education is that professors want you to be successful, “she says. “They want to get the best out of you, and they push you until you succeed.”
