Social Action Collaboratory Fellows

The Social Action Collaboratory Fellows program cultivates student leadership by increasing student skills to advocate, connect and guide peers in community-based learning.

Social Action Collaboratory Fellows
Students participate in a community visit

The Social Action Collaboratory positions a cohort of students as knowledgeable advocates who connect, cultivate, co-create, empower and transform the world around them. In this yearlong program, Fellows develop tools to support peers in community-based learning and serve as Collaboratory leaders.

The Office of Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility (CESR) developed this program to introduce students to social issues in local neighborhoods, develop students’ civic agency and create a thriving community among participants. Each group works with a local community organization with a focus on environmental justice.

Application for Social Action Collaboratory Fellowship

The application form for 2026-2027 will be available here in August.

The fellowship includes participating in a one-day retreat, co-facilitating capacity-building workshops, organizing community visits with local organizations and change agents and leading reflection sessions with collaboratory participants.

The overall time commitment is approximately 60 hours over the course of the academic year. The fellowship is work-study eligible. Fellows are paid hourly.

“ While we were working, members of the neighborhood came to the farm and talked with us about what we were doing. The 6th Branch demonstrated how important community is when engaging with local issues. ”

“ This program helped me realize that there is more to environmental justice than just the environment itself. It involves racial, economic and many other factors that contribute to pursuing environmental justice. ”
