CLA Dean’s Student Advisory Council

The Dean's Student Advisory Council (DSAC) consists of students from various College of Liberal Arts (CLA) majors and departments. The student led council is comprised of students who have been selected to serve as the voice of a diverse undergraduate and graduate student population and as a liaison between students and CLA Dean's office.  Oversight for DSAC is provided by , Associate Dean for the College of Liberal Arts.  

Purpose:

  • To facilitate communication and relationships between CLA students, faculty, staff and administrators.
  • To participate in CLA focused event planning and workshops. 
  • To foster increased awareness and visibility of the CLA.
  • To be actively engaged in improving CLA and TU student spirit as a collective whole.

Responsibilites:

  • Serve as a student representative to the CLA Dean's office.
  •  Provide student perspectives on issues, policies and procedures.
  • Provide feedback and suggest ways to improve student experience.
  • Provide feedback on CLA initiatives.
  • Assist with college recruitment activities such as TU4U, open house, etc. 

There are three levels of participation that are available to interested students:

  • Leadership
  • Active participant
  • Event volunteers

Hi! My name is Nicole Carnero and I am from Prince George’s County, Maryland. I am from Peru and a first-generation Junior in the Honors College studying Sociology-Anthropology with a concentration in Criminal Justice and a minor in Human Rights & History. In addition to serving on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, I am the Vice President for the Pasión Latin Dance Team and Tiger Stripes Coordinator for the Criminal Justice Student Association while being a consistent member of ALPFA. Outside of academics, I enjoy watching movies, arts & crafts, and hanging out with my friends. With my role in the Council, I hope to make CLA students into a tighter community with more engagement from the Council to hear from students. I want to put in my best efforts to be familiar with different departments and concerns students may have about CLA. Hi! My name is Keyona Carrington. I am a Junior studying Family and Human Services with a minor in Health Care Management. In addition to serving on the Dean's Student Advisory Council, I am involved in the Tigers Lead Program and a participant of the Student Action Collaboratory.  I would love to use active listening and critical thinking as a method to improve the experience of students within the liberal arts building. Be more active in observing challenges within the building in hopes to promote a safe and effective environment for students. Hi, everyone! My name is Paige Chase (she/her) and I am a second-year graduate student studying social impact within the Professional Studies program. In addition to serving on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, I am involved in the University Innovation Fellows program, a representative on the CLA Dean's Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and a Graduate Assistant for the Living and Learning Communities under Housing and Residence Life. As a council member, I am ecstatic for the opportunity to engage with other students and find ways to improve the student experience, especially when it comes to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA). Hi! My name is Gianna Diaz, and I am a Senior studying psychology, concentrating on childhood and adolescence. In addition to serving on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, I am involved with The Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Baltimore as a weekly volunteer. As well as interning with Pathways Behavioral Health, shadowing their behavioral technicians and analysts. I think finding time to decompress and recharge is very important which is why I love listening to guided meditations, walking trails, and going to small nearby beaches. My hopes with being on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council are to become more involved and connected with my peers, and to help serve as a bridge for enhancing the environment of CLA. Hello! My name is Bethany Firebaugh and I am a Senior here at Towson University studying for my bachelors in History. In addition to serving on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, I am a student research assistant for the Unearthing Towson’s History Project. The project is an ongoing collaboration between students, faculty members, and staff to uncover, understand, and explain the history and experience of diversity at Towson. A large part of this project focuses on collecting oral histories with retired faculty and alumni to address gaps within the University Archive’s collections and introduce new perspectives into Towson University’s collective history. With my position within the council, I aim to facilitate clear and open lines of communication between the Dean’s office and the student body to ensure that students voices can be heard in the addressal of issues pertaining to the CLA. Hey! My name is Aspen Huls and I am a Sophomore double marjoring in History and Religious Studies, and minoring in Museum Studies. In addition to serving on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, I am a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and participant in Phi Alpha Theta. I want to utilize my time here to represent student voices and advocate for change that the CLA community asks for. Good day to all of you! My name is Julian Joglar and I am a sophomore in the Honors College pursuing a double major in Psychology and Spanish. I am originally from Harford County (specifically Abingdon :D), although I am a military brat, so I am from many places such as Germany! In my free time, I enjoy cooking traditional Puerto Rican meals, playing video games with friends, reading a light novel, or simply just relaxing after a long day. In addition to serving on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, I am heavily involved in Pasión, the Latin dance team here on campus, as I am the co-fundraising chair. As a DSAC member, I aspire to bring people closer together with more awareness of the unique differences and perspectives we all bring. With a love of psychology and people, I want to spread more awareness around mental health along with how various past experiences and cultural backgrounds shape who we are. It is my goal to work with and understand anyone who has a concern in order to build a stronger and more close-knit community here in CLA. Hi! My name is Jordan Lewis and I am a sophomore political science major. In addition to serving on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, I am a member of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). Additionally, I am an avid mountain bike rider, outdoorsman, and runner. Through my role on the council, I hope to highlight the benefits of a liberal arts education to current and prospective students, encourage collaboration, and build a sense of community between LA students and faculty. I hope to be a leader in building up our college and preparing for the next generation of scholars that will grace its halls.
