Original scholarly and creative projects appropriate to any discipline are eligible for funding. For example, archival research, a laboratory experiment, writing articles or poems, or making a film, might all qualify for research support when conducted in an appropriate academic context.

Requirements

The applicant must also meet the following criteria and expectations:

  • Applicants are expected to have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Proposed projects will be conducted under the auspices of a CLA department or program.
  • All projects must be mentored and supported by a full-time CLA faculty member who agrees (1) to write a confidential letter of support for the application and (2) to observe the guidelines established by the University URCI committee.
  • Applicants whose projects are funded will agree to make a presentation (normally a poster presentation) at the Research and Creative Inquiry Forum late in the Spring semester.

Awards

There are two types of awards, those made at the college level and those made at the University level by the Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry Committee. Please note that there are some differences in the term during which the work may be undertaken, the timing of application, and details associated with the two types of awards.

URCI AWARDS

  • Applications must be submitted by October 1st.
  • The URIC will send applications from CLA students to the CLA committee for recommendations before decisions are made on the awardees.
