Undergraduate Programs
Our undergraduate programs will prepare you for teacher licensure in middle school education (grades 4-9) or secondary education (grades 7-12).
Middle School Education Major
Middle School Education majors select two content areas, which leads to Maryland State Teacher licensure for grades 4 to 9 in both content areas.
We offer school certification programs in the following content area combinations:
- English and Math
- English and Science
- English and Social Studies
- Math and Science
- Math and Social Studies
- Science and Social Studies
Secondary Education
Secondary Education students are eligible for Maryland teacher licensure programs for grades 7 to 12 in the following content areas:
- English
- French
- History
- Social Studies
- Spanish
Students interested in teacher licensure programs for grades 7 through 12 in mathematics, computer and mathematical sciences, biology, chemistry, earth-space science, and physics should contact UTeach.
Students interested in teacher licensure programs for Pre-K through 12 in art, dance, music, or physical education should contact the relevant academic department directly.
How to Apply
Students apply to the middle school or secondary education program when prerequisite courses are almost complete (45 units), typically towards the end of their second year. When ready to apply, students need to meet with their advisor for application instructions for admission to the middle school or secondary education program.
Students should routinely meet with their advisors to track their progress for admission.
