Dance Education PreK-12 Teacher Concentration
Dance majors may elect to add a concentration leading to eligibility for PreK-12 dance teacher certification.
Expand Your Options
Dancers with teaching experience have a competitive edge in the dance sector. That’s one reason the teacher certification option is a great choice. The program leads to eligibility for certification to teach dance in Maryland public schools and other states. It also offers excellent preparation to teach in a commercial studio setting or professional educational programs.
Admission and Degree Requirements
To be admitted to the dance B.F.A. with the PreK-12 concentration program, you first must be accepted to the dance performance and choreography screened major. Additional screening for this concentration includes a passing score in the three test areas of Praxis Core or a minimum composite score of 24 on the ACT or accepted SAT score as determined by test taking date, and completion of a Criminal History Disclosure Statement Authorization and Release Form (PDF).
The program typically takes four-and-a-half years, concluding with a full-semester internship in a public school. View degree requirements for the PreK-12 Dance Education Concentration in the Undergraduate Catalog.
