Meet Andrew Waldman
communication management master's program

Andrew Waldman

Andrew Waldman was admitted into the Communication Management master's program in fall 2018. He spent the beginning of his career as a print journalist, where he held a full-time job was a beat reporter covering public and higher education for the Times-Gazette in Ashland, Ohio.
Following that job, he moved to Maryland and was employed as a staff writer for the National Guard magazine, which is a house organ for the National Guard Association, a membership-based military advocacy organization located in Washington, D.C.

Since 2013, he has worked in the non-profit communications field here in Baltimore. He gained professional communication experience as a communications manager at the Family League of Baltimore, a quasi-public funding intermediary that focused on education and health programs for children under 18.

He currently works as a communications officer for the Baltimore Community Foundation, a philanthropic organization serving Baltimore City and Baltimore County. In this role, he manages the organization's social media presence, public relations activities, content development and e-mail marketing.

“Towson's program was a great fit for me as a mid-career professional in Baltimore," says Waldman. "I wanted the experience of an "on-campus" graduate education where I could join a community of scholars going through the same experiences as me. That environment is useful -and more fun - than an online program. This program works well with busy schedules and the faculty are truly engaged with their students.”

Waldman's goals for the program is to take the theoretical background and research skills he is learning at TU and use them to build communications plans based on empirical evidence that can be measured and evaluated for their success (or failure).

He adds, “My professional experience thus far has been ‘on the job training,’ developing a deeper knowledge base will be invaluable to my future work.”
