Student Organizations

MCOM students are involved in a range of student organizations.

Society of Professional Journalists

The Society of Professional Journalists is one of the oldest professional organizations for journalists in the United States. The Towson University chapter regularly invites experienced journalists to speak to students. The group meets at 5 p.m. Mondays in Media Center 203. The faculty advisers of the Towson chapter are JoAnne Broadwater and Dr. John Kirch. Follow Towson SPJ on Twitter @SPJTowsonU or on Facebook.

Towson Advertising Club

The Towson Advertising Club helps to provide guidance and mentorship for aspiring advertising professionals through workshops, networking events, and community involvement. The club in the past has held resume workshops, guest speakers, agency tours, and has volunteered in the Towson community. It also informs its members of available internships. The Towson Advertising Club meets every Monday in Van Bokkelen 209 from 5-6 p.m. You can follow/like the Ad Club on Facebook (Facebook Link) Instagram (@towsonadclub) and Twitter (@towson_ad_club). President Kylie Hipps can be reached via email at

Towson Student PR Group

The PR Group is a student-led membership organization that is comprised of student chapters of the two dominant public relations professional associations, The Public Relations Society of America and the International Association of Business Communicators.

These professional associations offer working PR practitioners professional development, networking, and leadership development opportunities. The PR Group does the same thing for Towson PR students to help them prepare for their careers. The PR Group elects student officers, conducts bi-weekly business meetings with the full membership, and sponsors various educational and networking opportunities, often with working practitioners.

The PR Group’s premier event is its Career Networking Fair held every April. The fair brings together employers who have both internships for undergraduates and full-time employment opportunities for graduates. The PR Group invites speakers and conducts a wide range of educational programs for its members throughout the year. For further information, contact the PR Group at
