Our second recipient who will be receiving our Outstanding Lecturer Award started at Towson University as an Adjunct Instructor, just over 20 years ago.  In 2002, our awardee was recognized as the University’s Outstanding Faculty Advisor. This individual has served as a class coordinator for adjunct faculty, coached and advised over 380 FYE freshmen, advised more than 600 majors during transfer sessions, managed nearly 100 advisees every semester, and critiqued and finalized transfer students’ degree completion plans. While at TU, our recipient has served at the departmental level as a consultant, course coordinator, and member of two program committees.  At the college level, our awardee has served as Vice-Chair and Chair of the FCSM’s College Council Executive Committee and participated in the FCSM’s Strategic Planning in conjunction with the Council of Chairs Committee.  At the University level, our recipient has served on the University Core Curriculum Committee and is a member of the Academic Senate and Open House Committee. This recipient has reviewed proposals for discussion forums and published several conference papers.  One nominating letter indicated that “our awardee is an outstanding teacher” and “is extremely knowledgeable, approachable, enthusiastic, and personable.”  The letter went on to say that “her strength as an educator comes from his/her professional experience, organizational skills, and flexibility to adjust to a variety of learning styles and personalities.” Another nominator indicated that especially noteworthy “is our recipient’s ability to integrate real world experiences into the classroom since she “makes a connection with students which is inspiring and motivating and never turns away a student who needs help.” S till another nominator indicated that our awardee’s student evaluations “are consistently above average and students truly enjoy her teaching and highly recommend her courses to other students.”

It is my great pleasure to present this award to Ms. Cheryl Brown from the Mathematics Department.
