The FCSM University and Professional Service Award is given for sustained and dedicated service by a faculty member who has made significant contributions, including service both internally and externally to TU.

This year’s recipient received a BS degree in Business Administration at TU in 1984 and since then, has served in various capacities, including Visiting Assistant Professor/Senior Lecturer, Assistant Director, Clinical Assistant Professor, Director, and Clinical Associate Professor.

Our awardee’s noteworthy service efforts have spanned nearly 20 years. He has served his department, college, and university in many important capacities.  Most notable, has been his contribution toward the establishment and development of the department’s undergraduate Information Technology program in 2008, where our recipient served as its Program Director.  In addition, our awardee has been instrumental in expanding the program and playing a major role in launching, managing, and expanding the IT curriculum, both at TU and the northeastern campus at TUNE.

Prior to the creation of the undergraduate IT program, our recipient was Program Director of the undergrad bachelor’s in professional studies, Information Technology program.  Besides all of the necessary attention to detail that needs to be in place to manage the scheduling, room and instructor assignments, and advising that goes along with running these programs, our recipient served on faculty search committees, the departmental Curriculum Committee, departmental General Education Committee, undergraduate IS Program Committee, departmental Articulation Committee, as a FCSM College Council departmental representative, Assistant Director for the Center for Applied Information Technology, and Honor’s College faculty member.  He was one of three principal investigators to receive a sizeable grant from the Maryland Higher Education program to support program growth and has been responsible for program development, including 2+2 programs, in Harford County.  Lastly, our recipient has published several noteworthy articles exploring various aspects of education-related topics as they apply to teaching, testing, and assessment of computing-related topics.

Join me in offering congratulations to Dr. Scott Hilberg from the Department of Computer & Information Sciences, as the 2019 winner of the FCSM University & Professional Service Award.
