Resources for Students

The Department of Chemistry offers several resources that support student learning experiences.

Advising & Degree Completion Planning

Undergraduate students are assigned a faculty adviser who is committed to helping you achieve your academic and professional goals. All students are required to complete an individualized degree completion plan by the time they complete 45 credits. See advising and degree completion planning.

Chemistry Tutoring Center

Chemistry tutoring is free of charge for Towson University students taking chemistry classes. The tutoring center is located in Smith Hall, Room 538, and is directed by Liina Ladon.

The department houses and maintains a wide variety of shared chemical instrumentation in a laboratory suite on the 5th floor of Smith Hall. Additional shared instrumentation and equipment is located in the physics, astronomy, and geosciences department and the Urban Environmental Biogeochemistry Laboratory. See facilities.

Laboratory Safety

Procedures and resources for faculty, staff and students pertaining to laboratory safety.

Pre-Pharmacy Advising

Students interested in pharmacy as a professional career should consult with a pre-pharmacy advisor located in the chemistry department. Pre-pharmacy students need to plan a course program, declare an academic major and learn the specific admissions requirements of the pharmacy college that they plan to attend.

Student Organizations

Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society (SAACS)

The SAACS Club is an official branch of the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society. Student members come from a variety of departments — you don't have to be a chemistry major to join.

Forensic Science Student Organization (FSSO)

The Forensic Science Student Organization meets regularly during the academic year. Student members are predominantly forensic chemistry majors, but you don't have to be a forensic chemistry major to join.

Other Affiliated Clubs

  • Environmental Science and Studies Club
  • Minority Science and Technology Club
  • Pre-Pharmacy Club
  • Women in Science Club

Career and Internship Support

We are committed to finding opportunities for our students, both while they are students at Towson and after graduation. The Towson University Career Center maintains a compilation of useful career resources for chemistry and forensic chemistry majors.
