TU is proud to be one of the safest campuses in Maryland.
On Thursday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m., Towson University will be conducting a test of its External Voice Emergency System. Please be advised, audible warning tones, recorded voice messages and a live voice message indicating that a test is being conducted may be heard in the communities/areas adjacent to the university. No action is necessary.
If you have any questions, please contact the TU Office of Public Safety’s Department of Environmental Health & Safety at (410) 704-2949.
The Towson University Office of Public Safety is made up of men and women dedicated to protecting and supporting our campus community. We are comprised of the Towson University Police Department, the Office of Environmental Health and Safety and Access Control, which oversees building access and safety cameras.
Contact the TUPD immediately if you see, experience, or even suspect a crime on campus. We are available 24/7 at 410-704-4444 or publicsafety AT_TOWSON. You can also contact us using the SaferMobility app or one of the campus’s emergency blue light phones.
The university distributes emergency alerts whenever there is an urgent incident or imminent threat on campus. We publicly share up-to-date crime statistics in our Crime Log. An annual comparison of on-campus crimes at Maryland colleges and universities is available in the Uniform Crime Report (UCR). A more in-depth description of annual crimes, fires, and safety programs is included in our annual Clery Report.
Safety starts with awareness. We strongly encourage students, faculty and staff to sign up for emergency text alerts and download the SaferMobility app to stay safe on campus. You can also access on-demand police escorts, the campus SafeRide, safety tips and videos and a wide range of safety services to reduce your chance of becoming a victim of crime.
Watch our award-winning active shooter video below for proven strategies on staying safe in an emergency. The Emergency Resources Guide provides guidance on responding to a range of emergencies.
Students, faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to register for Towson University's emergency notification system. Registering is the best way to ensure you receive critical notifications on safety concerns, school closings and more.
