What is Academic Coaching?

Academic coaching is one-on-one student interaction with a Tutoring and Learning Center peer academic coach. Coaches help students recognize and achieve their academic goals and reach self-efficacy in a safe space. Students should seek academic coaching in order to identify and work to remove the barriers to their academic success.

Peer academic coaching is available for all currently enrolled Towson students. You can meet with a coach on your schedule, whether it's once a semester or every week.

How do I schedule coaching?

Coaching for the fall semester begins on September 2nd. Schedules will be available the week of August 25th. Visit TracCloud™ and follow the instructions to schedule an appointment. Appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

Schedule your Coaching Session

What can I expect during a coaching session?

An academic coaching session is a conversation. Peer academic coaches will ask you about your current study habits, educational goals, strengths, and weaknesses. You'll be encouraged to observe and assess your learning process. Then, peer acadmic coaches can help you by suggesting techniques and strategies developed by learning professionals and theorists.

Peer academic coaches can:

  • teach study skills
  • teach learning strategies
  • evaluate your learning style for strengths and weaknesses
  • help you make a study plan
  • help you organize your class materials
  • help you make a weekly schedule
  • act as an accountability buddy
  • and more!

What should I bring to an academic coaching session?

You should bring an open mind and a willingness to learn! It's also helpful to bring academic materials like your planner, syllabi, notes, and textbooks.
