The Towson University English Language Center (ELC) helps international students develop the English language skills needed for a successful academic transition to U.S. universities. Our Intensive English and ESL programs focus on improving reading, writing, listening, and speaking, preparing students for college courses, exams, and professional opportunities. With a supportive learning environment and experienced instructors, the ELC also promotes personal growth, cultural understanding, and long-term success in both academic and professional settings.

You will meet people from all over the world as you study, participate in cultural and social events, and use campus recreational facilities. The Towson ELC is a semester-long program with fall, spring and summer semesters.

Intensive Academic English
For over thirty years, the Towson University English Language Center (ELC) in Maryland has provided state-of-the-art academic English instruction for international students from more than 80 countries. Students are placed in one of six proficiency levels in our Intensive English and ESL programs, helping them strengthen reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills while preparing for U.S. college courses.

English Conversation and Culture Program
The English Conversation and Culture Program at Towson University helps international students improve spoken English while learning about U.S. culture. This ESL program is ideal for students, au pairs, and community members looking to gain confidence in everyday English conversation. Meetings are held once a week on Tuesday evenings for 3 hours. They run on a semester basis. Please contact us at elc@towson.edu for information on upcoming courses.

Private Tutorial Program
We offer private tutoring by our experienced ESL teaching specialists to middle and high school students seeking language enrichment, as well as university students and professionals aiming to enhance writing and communication skills.
