Health Insurance

All exchange students must have health insurance coverage while studying at Towson University that meets the minimum requirements set by the TU Health Center. Exchange students must also meet the U.S. Department of State Insurance requirements. All exchange students are automatically enrolled in the TU health insurance policy. The TU health insurance fee is billed to the student’s account each semester that they attend TU. If exchange students purchase an alternate plan, they must submit the International Student Health Insurance Waiver Application. The waiver will only be approved if the student's health insurance policy meets TU's minimum requirements. Instructions for how to apply for the waiver are as follows:

  1. Complete the International Student Health Insurance Waiver Application online no later than September 15 for the fall semester and February 15 for the spring semester. No waiver applications will be accepted and no insurance refunds will be granted after the deadline. You can access the waiver application from the Health Center page for International Students.
  2. The TU Health Center will evaluate your alternate plan and waiver request.
  3. You will be notified whether or not your waiver has been approved.
