IACUC Training

Ongoing education and training in protection of animal subjects is a requirement for anyone engaged in research.

TU Training

Towson University has partnered with The University of Miami’s Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) to provide online training. CITI provides a comprehensive selection of educational modules appropriate for the nature of research with which an investigator is engaged. The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPR) requires ALL individuals (including students) engaged in animal subjects research at Towson University to take the appropriate CITI training.

TU faculty, staff, and students can log in directly with their NetID and password. If you already have a pre-existing account through CITI, your account should now be linked to your TU NetID login information. All existing certificates and account information should have transferred over and remain the same.

If you encounter any issues when logging in with your NetID or have missing account information, please contact the OSPR at

Required Courses

Individuals are only required to take the modules most related to the type of research in which they are engaged.

The CITI training must be completed every 3 years in order to continue conducting animal research at Towson University.

The appropriate CITI training courses, as delegated by the Principal Investigator (PI) and the IACUC, must be completed prior to submitting an application for IACUC approval. Further, the IACUC may request additional training after review of a new protocol.
