Domino Sugar

Students and their professors most recently went inside one of Baltimore's landmark institutions, Domino Sugar, to see how the refinery, founded in 1901, processes 6.5 million pounds of raw Sugar per day.

Port of Baltimore, Ports America Chesapeake, Baltimore, MD

Ports America Chesapeake operates the Seagrit Marine Terminal at the Port of Baltimore, which is one of only 10 U.S. East Coast ports with a 50-foot draft to handle the Super-Post-Panamax cargo ships. Supply chain students and their professors took a walking tour of the terminal, which is not available to the general public.

Heavy Seas Brewery, Halethorpe, MD

Participants were able to see in real-time the process of brewing, bottling, storing and distributing craft-beer products. Furthermore, our students were introduced to inventory keeping and warehousing methods used at the brewery. Clipper City produces approximately 34,000 barrels of beer each year.

Independent Can Company, Belcamp, MD

This facility provides fabrication, treatment, and custom lithography for specialty metal packaging. Independent Can's metal containers are a familiar site on retail shelves, providing packaging for perfumes, olive oil, gourmet cookies, and, popcorn. Executive Vice President Bob McClelland hosted the visit and provided an overview of the strategic direction and tactical operations that have ensured Independent Can's success in domestic manufacturing since 1929.
