Public Health Internships

Public health intern

The internship is a hands-on fieldwork opportunity that serves as a capstone experience during which students apply their public health training in a real-world setting. Students may work at a health agency, wellness center, health department or other public health setting. The internship sites where students are placed have been reviewed and approved for inclusion in the curriculum. Students participate in an interview process to match with an internship site. The internship takes place over a full term (15 weeks) and students earn 6, 9, or 12 credits. Students are not paid as interns.

To be eligible for an internship, students must have senior status and have successfully completed all required courses for the public health major with a grade of “C” or better. Prospective interns are required to attend a pre-internship meeting to discuss internship requirements and to assure that appropriate documentation is submitted on their behalf. Internships take place in the fall or spring term; there are no summer internships.
