Resources for Students

The Electronic Media and Film Department provides academic advising resources and media production facilities and equipment to its students.

Advising

The Department of Electronic Media and Film (EMF) is committed to a student-centered approach to advising. Your EMF advisor will help you with more than simply building your course schedule. Your advisor will also assist in helping you achieve your academic and professional goals.

Degree Completion Planning

Degree Completion Planning is an advising process designed to more efficiently map your path toward graduation. An Individualized Degree Completion Plan takes the Suggested Degree Completion Plan of your major (or concentration or track) and personalizes it for your academic career given your unique needs, goals and aspirations.

Student Organizations

The Department of Electronic Media and Film offers a number of extracurricular student activities where students are empowered to explore film and electronic media interests. Learn more about our student organizations.

Career and Internship Support

Internships afford students the opportunity for professional experiences and networking, and are viewed as an integral part of the electronic media and film major. The Department of Electronic Media and Film has an active internship program. Our majors have served as interns with local and national organizations, including:

  • CNN
  • Hearst radio stations such as WBAL, 98 Rock, and Viacom
  • BET and Warner Brothers
  • Baltimore Ravens

The Department of Electronic Media and Film (EMF) awards a number of annual scholarships. The College of Fine Arts and Communications and TU offer undergraduate research and travel grants. Scholarship awards are made in the spring for the following school year. Award amounts vary (check current application for amount). Deadlines for EMF scholarships vary, but most are due in February for the following academic year.

Study Abroad/Away

Study abroad/away is a rewarding, life-transforming experience that helps students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become productive and successful members of the global community.

Media Labs

In addition to classrooms and offices located in the Media Center, the Department of Electronic Media and Film operates an HD television studio, an HD cinema, and a Media Production Laboratory with cameras, lighting equipment, audio equipment and studios, editing/post-production suites, and radio production rooms.
