Why study theatre arts at Towson University:

We are opportunity creators.

Towson University has over 150 years of experience creating opportunity; opening up more possibilities for more people and ensuring a future where everyone plays a role. The Department of Theatre Arts expands our students’ possibilities with a comprehensive exploration of theatre that includes emerging areas of practice, such as educational outreach and new work development. Students learn theatre by doing theatre in faculty and guest directed productions, as well as student-generated projects. Our Center for the Arts enhances student learning with state-of-the-art performance classrooms and technical shops, and four performance venues. Opportunity extends beyond the campus as well, with professional internships, community engagement, and international study.

This is what higher education was meant to do.

Towson University embodies what higher education’s role should be now and in the future. Through a curriculum that integrates an intellectual foundation in the liberal arts with the development of students’ expressive abilities, all theatre students at Towson University are empowered to fulfill their potential as thoughtful, enthusiastic, compassionate artists and citizens. We are committed to the promise of higher education as cultivating the educated citizenry that is crucial to our democracy and to the potential of our students to help create a better world.

Mentors are always close by

At Towson University, students are never far from someone inspiring. Theatre professors are accomplished working professionals and dedicated teachers with an equal commitment to the development of students’ artistic capacities as to the expansion of their world-view. The program’s focus on the development of each individual makes it an equally nurturing home for students who have clearly developed career goals as for those who are still exploring what the study of theatre might mean in their lives. With Towson University’s focus on the whole person and mentorship as the norm, our students find their calling and their voice.

Learning that makes a difference.

Towson University graduates play essential roles in their communities--transforming classrooms, leading nonprofits and businesses, serving as innovators, creative forces and champions for the public good. The Department of Theatre Arts prepares our students for careers in the theatre and helps them cultivate transferrable skills that will serve a range of possible endeavors in life, including those that do not yet exist and those that our students themselves might invent. Our graduates work on stage and behind the scenes in every major theatre center in the country. Recent students have been accepted to respected theatre graduate programs across the nation. And others have put their theatre education to use in fields such as law, business and education.

Make our momentum yours.

We are the fastest-growing university in Maryland and ranked #1 among the state’s universities for contributing to the public good. Our momentum is always accelerating – energizing everyone who experiences it. Theatre students explore, engage, and excel!
