Flexibility of online programs makes a difference for students

According to the U.S. News & World Report, Towson University's College of Education’s online graduate education programs rank No. 35 of 303 in the United States and are the best ranked programs in Maryland.

“All our programs prepare students to succeed at teaching in the rapidly changing, diverse and challenging field of education, including our online programming,” says Dean Laurie Mullen, College of Education. “The online master’s in education programs provide our students with flexibility when pursuing higher degrees and encourages more people to take on the challenge of elevating their academic pursuits. We need more teachers...and these programs help.”

In evaluating the online graduate education degree program, the U.S. News & World Report reviewed several factors, including engagement, faculty credentials, services and technologies, student excellence and expert opinions. Online master's in education programs

This unique program is crafted to the needs of working professionals in many careers and locations. People who can benefit from earning this degree may work in administration; supervision; mentoring in in early childhood programs; elementary or primary grade teaching; family/community support; early intervention; resource and referral; program licensing; infant and toddler programs; and/or other roles in the community with young children and families. This program will prepare students to develop children’s problem-solving and thinking skills with a special emphasis on diverse learners. Program participants can expect to gain knowledge and skills in developmentally appropriate instruction for advanced learners, family outreach and support and instructional models and strategies for developing the talents, creativity and problem-solving skills of children. This program brings together theory, research and real-world experience that offers advanced learning to certified teachers. Thus far, 100% of the graduates of this program successfully complete the Praxis II test in special education. Learn more

 

 

This program, with embedded courses for Administrator 1 certification, prepares students to be dynamic and effective leaders in America’s schools. Throughout the program, students will expand their leadership views, including leadership from the classroom and the traditional school administrator pathway. Learn more

 

This applied professional program educates leaders in technology training and development, school library media and educational computing and media. Students will gain firsthand knowledge of best practices, resources and the current needs in the field. Learn more

 

Each program offers small class sizes, interactive content and access to campus-based resources such as the Albert S. Cook Library and tech support. Additionally, each student has access to an adviser who can provide support and guidance throughout their time working toward the degree.

As a graduate of the master of science in instructional technology program, Celine Yakoumatos ‘23 is grateful for the flexibility in online programing. “Not everyone can sit in the classroom as a traditional student. That’s where distance learning comes in,” she says. “The fully asynchronous online format of the master’s program is the perfect way to teach the subject matter and to teach students how to successfully work remotely.”

Despite the physical distance, Yakoumatos noted she’s “especially grateful for my professors and advisers who supported me on my journey to find the program that best fits my long-term goals.”

The College of Education has been a leader in education for more than 150 years.
