ChatGPT and AI-Generated Assignments

ChatGPT and tools providing artificial intelligence-generated content present a significant challenge to the teaching and learning environment, a challenge that will continue throughout the spring semester and beyond. Towson University’s response to these tools is evolving based on new developments and experiences that faculty have shared with us.

FACET held an AI event on Tuesday, February 14, during which we heard from panelists and from many of you about ideas for assignment design, syllabus language, and other topics related to AI-generated assignments.

There are many models for syllabus language that reflect different approaches to use of AI in teaching and learning. FACET has developed sample language that you may choose to use in your syllabus. As always, before using this or modifying it for your courses, please check with your Department to see if there are already syllabus guidelines in place for AI content.

When designing your assignments and assessments, whether you are prohibiting use of AI in assignments or allowing it within prescribed situations, you may want to make changes in light of ChatGPT.
