Gear Rental

Want to plan your own outdoor adventure, but don’t know where to start? Take advantage of Campus Recreation's Gear Rental program, which offers all the equipment needed for camping and exploring to TU students, faculty, and staff.

Gear Rental is available at the Outdoor Adventure Center on Monday – Thursday by appointment only.

How it Works

Step 1: Select your equipment from our Rental Items list. 

Step 2: Complete a Rental Request form.  Rental requests must be submitted at least one week before the equipment is needed. 

Step 3: Outdoor Adventures will call you to confirm your rental request, your rental period, as well as go over your invoice and sizing information. 

Step 4: Pay for your equipment at Membership & Guest Services. Payment can be made through Visa, Mastercard, Discover cards, or retail points.  

Step 5: Bring your receipt to the Outdoor Adventure Center on the day of pick up.  

Step 6: Grab your gear and adventure away!

Fall 2018 Packages

4-Day Semester Pass

For the adventurer who likes to go out every weekend! This pass grants access to unlimited 4-day rentals throughout the semester. Each rental transaction may have as many different items as the renter wishes; rental items may only be in single quantities.

10-Day Semester Pass

For those who adventure longer! This pass grants those access to unlimited 10-day rentals throughout the semester. Each rental transaction may have as many different items as the renter wishes; rental items may only be in single quantities.

Semester-Long Bike Rental

Don’t let the shuttle bus dictate your route – rent a bike to use for the entire semester! These single-speed bikes come to you fully tuned up and ready to ride. Pick up your bike the second week into the semester and return your bike the Monday of finals week. Once a request is completed, Outdoor Adventures staff will contact the renter regarding bike size and pick up date/time.

Registration begins on August 27, 2018. Visit the TU Campus Rec portal to register.

Guidelines and Fees
  1. All Gear Rental pick ups will be done at the Front Desk of the Outdoor Adventure Center (BU 157) during Gear Rental Hours (Monday-Thursday by appointment only).
  2. All Gear Rental payments must be made at the Membership & Guest Services office prior to Gear Rental pick-up.
  3. All Gear Rental users must complete a Rental Agreement at Membership & Guest Services prior to Gear Rental pick-up.
  4. All Gear Rental users must present their OneCard at time of pick up.
  5. Sponsored guests may not rent equipment from the Gear Rental program.
  6. Gear Rental users may not rent equipment for anyone other than themselves.
  7. All equipment is rented in 'as is' condition. All Gear Rental users are subject to late, damage, maintenance, and/or replacement fees as determined by Campus Recreation Professional Staff. Any additional fees that the user incurs will be billed to the user's Bursar account.

Additional Fees:

  1. All returned equipment will be inspected by Gear Rental staff upon return. Gear Rental staff will note any damages to the Coordinator - Outdoor Adventure Center.
  2. The renter will be emailed within two (2) business days of their rental return indicating any equipment damages and their associated fees.
  3. Damage fees will be determined depending on the severity of the damage and the materials needed to repair the damages.
  4. Outdoor Adventures reserves the right to determine a damage as 'irreparable' and the renter will need to pay a replacement fee.

Standard Fees are as Follows:

    • Cleaning or Drying Fee: $20
    • Maintenance Labor Fee: $15
    • Maintenance Material Fee (small part replacement): At cost
    • Lost or Total Replacement: At cost + 10%

No-show fees: 

  1. Renters may choose to opt out of renting equipment with Outdoor Adventures. Renters who give at least 24 hours’ notice that they will not be able to pick up their equipment will avoid a “No-Show Fee”.
  2. Renters who do not give 24 hours’ notice will incur a one-day fee per item for the equipment they have reserved but did not pick up.
  3. Renters who wish to push back their pick up date may do so, as long as Gear Rental is open. Renters may not push back their return date without a one-day late fee.

Late Fees:

  1. Equipment due dates will be arranged upon equipment check-out. Renters may not extend their equipment rental period after the initial equipment check-out.
  2. Renters will be emailed a reminder on the date that their equipment is due back to the Outdoor Adventure Center. If the renter does not return their equipment by 9 p.m. on the due date, they are subject to late fees.
  3. Late fees will be charged per day late and per item. Late fees vary and are dependent upon the type of equipment.
  4. Renters have 14 days to return equipment past its due date. After 14 days, renters will be charged a replacement fee (full item cost + 10%), in addition to the per diem late fees.
