frequently asked questions

What is New Student Orientation?

New Student Orientation is a mandatory one-day program designed to introduce you to TU's academic expectations and help you meet fellow incoming students. You will learn about your course schedule, academic standards, living on/off campus, and what it means to be a part of the TU community.

Will I be able to register for classes during New Student Orientation?

No. The Academic Advising Office registers new first-year students for the Fall semester. You must fill out the Academic Interest Form in order for advisers to place you in classes. This form will be available for students entering in the Fall 2019 semester in late March.

What do I need to bring for New Student Orientation?

You will need to bring a few items to New Student Orientation:

  • Know your TU ID (7-digit number), your Net-ID and password
  • Wear comfortable clothes and bring a reusable water bottle
  • Bring photo identification to pick up your OneCard. You will take your photo on site, and image requirements can be found here
  • Don't forget the parking permit emailed to you 3-5 days in advance of your orientation session
  • Download the TU Events app on your mobile device
Can I bring a family member, guest or friend to New Student Orientation?

Yes! Students can bring up to two (2) guests to New Student Orientation. Each guest must pay the $25 fee to attend, which covers supplies and lunch.

You must register your guest at the same time you sign up for your New Student Orientation session. Each guest will attend Family Orientation and will not be able to attend student-only sessions.

How do I request on-campus housing? What if I want to live off-campus?

Freshman students can apply for on-campus housing through Housing and Residence Life  (separate requests are needed to live in Millennium Hall or Paca and Tubman Houses).

If you are looking to live off-campus, TU has a new Off Campus Housing Finder that will help you locate apartment complexes close to campus.

What is the fee for New Student Orientation?

The fee for students is $110 and is charged to your Fall semester bursar's bill. Guests are charged $25 per person and must pay when they register for a program date. Guest fees are nonrefundable. Download our fee policy here.

For students, family members, and guests who may need a fee waiver in order to attend, please complete this form.

More information about the guest program can be found at the Family Orientation page.
