X+AI: AI Across the Disciplines

Towson University's approach to AI education is X+AI: deep expertise in a discipline, combined with the ability to apply AI within it. TAI works with academic departments across all colleges to develop courses, certificates and program pathways that bring AI into fields from the sciences and business to education, health professions, the humanities and the arts. TU faculty develop the curriculum themselves, so what students learn reflects the discipline as it is actually practiced.

K-12 and the Educator Pipeline 

Towson University prepares more teachers than any other institution in Maryland. As Maryland's schools integrate AI under the state's AI guidance for K-12 education, TU's contribution starts upstream: preparing future teachers who understand AI and can use it well in their classrooms. TAI works with the College of Education to help in this important work. 

AI Literacy for Every Student

AI literacy belongs in the foundation of a university education. TU faculty are integrating AI into general education courses, first-year seminars and introductory computing courses such as COSC 141: AI Technology in Practice, open to students across majors. TAI works with departments, Towson Seminar and the FACET AI Hub to expand these efforts.

Faculty Development

In partnership with the FACET AI Hub, TAI supports workshops and communities of practice for faculty at every stage — from a first structured look at AI tools to hands-on work with agentic AI. 

An AI-Ready Workforce

 Maryland's employers — in industry, government, education, and the nonprofit sector — need graduates who can apply AI responsibly in their fields. TAI works with these employers and regional partners to keep TU's programs current with what they need.
