Advising & Student Support

Your geography and environmental planning adviser is committed to helping you
achieve your academic and professional goals.

While many advising sessions will be devoted to selecting classes to fulfill your degree, the geography and environmental planning adviser is also a valuable resource for internships, career choices, applying for jobs, or challenges with classes.

Advising is required upon reaching 45 credits, 90 credits, or upon a change of major

Students cannot register for classes without first meeting with their advisers. During or immediately after meeting with a student, the adviser will remove the advising hold.

Who Is My Adviser?

When students declare a major or minor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Planning, they are assigned an adviser from the department. Students can see their assigned advisor in Peoplesoft. Students without an assigned advisor should contact the department at 410-704-2973.

How Do I Prepare For My Advising Session?

First, check the degree requirements in the Undergraduate Catalog. Students will receive assistance from general academic and faculty advisers, but students must assume responsibility for completing published degree requirements.

Then, to prepare for an advising session:

  • Check Peoplesoft for your assigned registration date and review your advising report / academic requirements.
  • Contact your adviser and schedule an appointment prior to your assigned registration date.
  • Check degree requirements in the catalog

How Do I Register?

Make sure the adviser removed the advising hold at the end of the advising meeting. Register for classes by logging into Peoplesoft on the assigned date.
