In 2008, the Office of Human Resources launched a unique training, networking and
development program for support staff at area colleges and universities. Modeled after
TU's President’s Leadership Institute, the Building Bridges program fosters collaboration
and idea sharing between employees at Maryland Institute College of Art, McDaniel
College, Notre Dame of Maryland University, Towson University, and the University
of Maryland Baltimore County.
The Building Bridges program includes a cohort of five individuals from each institution
listed above who attend six sessions—one held at each participating institution. Programs
begin with a kickoff session that brings participants together to learn what is expected
to complete the program and get to know each other. After the final session, participants
and their supervisors are invited to attend a formal graduation where they receive
a certificate of completion.
We have graduated ten cohorts from our Support Staff program, three cohorts from our
Supervisor program, and have held graduate programs that welcome back participants
from previous cohorts. One of the program's goals is to keep graduates engaged and
preparing for successful futures.
Support Staff Cohorts
Our eleventh Support Staff cohort will begin in August 2018. Topics include Managing
Your Strengths, Staying Organized While Balancing Multiple Priorities, Career Development
Essentials, Working With You is Killing Me, and Customer Service is No Different in
Higher Education than Anywhere Else.
