Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accommodations
Towson University is committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all
faculty and staff, including those with disabilities. Consistent with its obligations
under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities
Act of 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008, and Section 20-609
of the Annotated Code of Maryland, the university provides reasonable workplace accommodations
to qualified employees with disabilities.
Employees requesting disability accommodations should complete the Faculty and Staff Accommodation Request Form and have their medical provider complete the Disability Accommodation Certification. Towson University may request medical documentation from a treating and licensed medical
provider, outlining the following:
- the reason the accommodation is being requested (not necessarily the diagnosis),
- the specific essential function(s) requiring accommodation,
- how the essential function(s) is/are impacted,
- the duration the accommodation is anticipated to be required, and
- the recommended or preferred accommodation
Employee Assistance Program
Towson University offers a comprehensive employee assistance program, through Inova.
All regular and contingent faculty and staff and their families are eligible to receive
a wide range of helpful services 24/7. Services and support includes child and eldercare
referrals, resources for children with special needs, short term counseling, and other
life and work services. Employees can access Inova services via the Inova website or by calling 1-800-346-0110 (username/password: towsonu). There is no need for a
supervisory referral, although they are still available by contacting the Employee
Relations and Development unit. Services are confidential and there is no cost to
employees for any of Inova's services.
Towson University is participating in the Chronicle's Great Colleges to Work for Survey.
