The Big Event originated at Texas A&M and is the largest one-day, student run service project in the nation. The event promotes campus and community unity as hundreds of students come together for service-oriented activities on one day to express their gratitude for the support from the surrounding community.
At TU, the Office of Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility coordinates opportunities for hands-on projects with local community associations. Projects raise awareness of environmental sustainability and include cleaning up streams, beautifying local greenspaces, and preparing community gardens for the planting season. Elderly residents or residents with mobility limitations, can request light gardening beautification support from student volunteers through their respective community associations.
