AileyCamp Baltimore

AileyCamp Baltimore at Towson University provides youth from the greater Baltimore area, between the ages of 11 and 14, with an opportunity to explore their creativity, master their bodies, and strengthen their respect for themselves and others within a supportive framework.

An important message regarding AileyCamp Baltimore Summer 2020:

Thank you all for your interest in AileyCamp Baltimore. Even as State of Maryland restrictions for sheltering in place ease, the safety of our community is our top priority. We have made the difficult decision to cancel AileyCamp Baltimore 2020.

We have offered a Virtual AileyCamp experience for our return campers only (those who have attended camp in the past) ages 11-14. We have taken this precaution due to safety, however, we have room for approximately 10 more campers.

If you are still interested in attending AileyCamp 2020 and are accustomed to taking dance classes during the year, please complete the application (How to apply) and have your dance teacher/dance school email us their recommendation ASAP. Accepted campers will be expected to participate in the entire camp session (July 13-August 7.)

The email recommendation from/school must include:

  • Child's/applicant's name
  • Dance teacher/school
  • Information about how long the applicant studies dance during the week.

Respectfully,

Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell,
Director

What is AileyCamp?

AileyCamp is an innovative summer program for youth, ages 11-14, that uses disciplined dance training, creative writing instruction, personal development, and communication workshops, to help campers develop a respect for themselves and others that meaningfully impacts their lives.

Alvin Ailey believed that “dance is for everybody,” and was especially dedicated to using dance to enhance the lives of underserved children. AileyCamp represents a vital continuation of Alvin Ailey’s vision, using the power of dance to enrich and positively alter the lives of children. Conceived by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and run locally by Towson University, AileyCamp combines professional level dance training with personal development activities.

Since its inception in 1989, this vital program has reached thousands of youth across the country, providing direction and hope to children who are most in need of knowing there can be a bright future. Currently there are 10 AileyCamps across the United States: Baltimore, MD; Berkeley/Oakland, CA; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Kansas City, KS; Kansas City, MO; Miami, FL; Newark, NJ; New York, NY, and Seattle, WA.
