Chapman Quad

The Chapman Quad, an outdoor gathering space, is named in honor of Julius Chapman, TU’s first dean of minority affairs.

Chapman quad and bust

The Dr. Julius Chapman Quadrangle, the lawn between the Media Center and Stephens Hall, was renamed in 2021. The lawn includes a bronze bust of Chapman, seating areas for community members and a walkway lined with nine brick pillars with plaques dedicated to each National Pan-Hellenic Council’s (NPHC) historically African American fraternities and sororities that Chapman brought to campus 50 years prior.

Watch the Dedication

Oct. 16, hundreds of alumni and students honored Chapman during a dedication ceremony for the quad.
