Towson University’s 9/11 Memorial Garden was created by Housing and Residence Life to offer a peaceful place of reflection for members of the TU community to remember the victims of the terror attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001. Collectively, 2,977 Americans were killed at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and on Flight 93 over Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Of those, 69 Marylanders were lost including TU alumna Elizabeth Wainio ’95.
The Memorial Garden is located in front of Newell Hall.
The Elizabeth Wainio Memorial Communications Scholarship was established by her family and friends to honor her memory by supporting current TU communications majors.
