Towson University is recognized as one the finest music programs in Maryland. Our programs in music education, performance, composition, and jazz draw outstanding students who pursue successful careers in music.
The Department of Music offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs. The department offers a broad range of musical opportunities to majors, minors, and non-majors in a learning environment supported by an excellent and diverse faculty. We are committed to providing a sound liberal arts and sciences education to a diverse student population.
Under the guidance of expert faculty, the Department of Music provides students with pathways to excellence in music, communication, and technology appropriate for the 21st century musician.
Our programs foster creativity, artistic independence, and intellectual curiosity. Field experiences help prepare the next generation of music educators. Students are exposed to a wide variety of music from Western Art music and the creation of original work, to jazz and commercial music, and the music of non-Western music cultures.
Towson University and its Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, and the Maryland State Department of Education.
